QUOTATION/MYTH is the first photography exhibition hosted by TCMoFA. It featured works by 7 artists and was curated by David Hoekje.
“This collection of photographs, videos, and mixed media pieces by 7 Washington based artists is a series of works which together investigate, interrogate, and complicate the contemporary state of the photographic image. In a historical moment where the ubiquity of photography in day to day life is unparalleled this show attempts to present images which call in to question the immediate role that photographs take in our lives. Through snapshots and medical imaging, scrolling screens and ambrotypes, the act of capturing light onto a plane as a creation of truth is probed and examined. It is my hope that after viewing these varied and multitudinous physical manifestations of photography you will be induced to pause and question some of the myths, stories, and quotations put forth by the images we find outside of the museum.”
